Hi guys, I am wondering if there are areas of the the jeep that you all modify but may not discuss. I know many of us are good with fabrication, but is that limited to bumpers and non-mechanical parts? I happen to have access to a machine shop and some hard-core fabs could be possible. What are your thoughts on things like making our own adjustable arms or steering components given accurate specs? I am not looking to get flamed here, I just want to know what you BNB'ers think of harder fabs.

I am all for it. I am getting ready soon to fabricate my front and rear bumpers and have been tossing around the idea of starting a small fab business as well. Sliders, bumpers, controls arms, roof racks, etc ....so what exactly are you planning?

I was looking at many of the items that we jeepers can buy online at places like Kevin's, IRO or 4wheelParts, and it seems to me that those designs are simple, rugged, and entirely doable. I already built my front bumper, and have plans for rock sliders and a rear bumper too. Given some ideas and a little paper, designs are not complicated, it just takes the patience and tools to build it. Besides those things, I was toying with the idea of building control arms, as they can be designed around a simple, easy-to-find bushing, material is not hard to get. The thing about designing your own parts is that you have to have the following: supplies, tools, know-how. Once these are taken care of stay with the KISS philosophy, look at other designs for ideas/inspirations, and go for it. Your idea for starting some business sounds cool though, how are you planning on starting out?

Hey that's a start. I am looking at trimming mine for my 3inches of lift and 32's in the future. The snorkel, how did you go about it, I have read threads on the DIY, but none of them seem to be real asthetically pleasing unless you buy that crazy expensive safari one.

hey im new to the club as of 5 min ago!

but anyway ive built front and rear bumpers, roof rack, a set of radius long arms(getting ready to start on my 3-link and new cross member)
ive built control arm skids, and getting ready to start on my sliders and skid plates. when i get the money that is.

im a strong believer, that if you have(or can get) the resourses to do it yourself then do it. why waste the money when YOU can build it!

and its alot of fun.

edit: steering would be easy to do also, just do your homework!
heres a few pics of my 96 xj!

Wow, that's some sick stuff! You know, it seems like it would be a cool idea to get design drawings for our parts, as sort of a DIY bible! Then others could use them as templates or spin-offs, what do you all think?

The DIY bible sounds great cuz I know alot of people like me start a project and get lost in the middle and dont know where to go. That would be a god sent to people like me who are just getting into their own fabircation.

I also agree that a DIY bible would be a great idea. I know that I would like visuals of others designs to help me along in a project. Hints and tricks would be great to.

That is very cool, there are some nifty ideas that can be attached to a hitch. Personally an old ball hitch I've found makes a good anvil for smashing out dents in removed body panels and so forth. I would be interested in seeing this BBQ pit!

I welded another reciever hitch to my Jeep. Located in the middle of the spare tire rack, this makes a good place to put a cargo carrier. I don't have to worry about covering the taillights,or the LP...it also has a minimal effect on the departure angle. I have also fabricated a golf club rack that slides in a reciever hitch. It holds 2 bags of clubs..and behind my Jeep it looks like a big *** golfcart I also made a fishin rod holder holds 4 rods vertically (my boy calls it a rocket launcher). I will add pics when my technology gets there.
