Ihave a 1996 GC and put a 249 tcase into it in dispare and
it only has 2 wheel and 4 low is it the case or the computor
not accepting it and why are the 242s so hard to find
Thanks for the info now I just pulled
a 242 from an 89 cherokee it has a speed cable rather than
electric speedo is it possible to switch one for the
other
I think they will interchange. I believe a 10mm wrench
removes the bolt. Just be sure and get the electronic
assembly in right. I'm thinking it will go in 4 different
ways depending on which gear ratio you have. If you clean
up the aluminum housing, you should be able to see a number
for each of the 4 positions. Look directly through the hole
and you will notice the smaller hole the gear shaft runs
through is off-set (cam like). As you twist the housing
around the 4 different positions, it moves the speedo gear
closer to or further away from the output shaft gear to
allow proper mesh.
Thanks again Ron, I am on my way out to clean up the 242 and
pull the 249 out, I hope to keep in touch cause once this
red one sells I will build the girlfriends UP! It is a 97
Grand Cherokee with lot less miles.
I have found some really good instruction on t-case
assembly/disassembly on 4wheelsupply.com I am going out now
to attempt this imput shaft switch and take photos along the
way. I am
not a mechanic but I wrench A-LOT maybe my experience will
someday help someone else.
