I am in the same boat. I have a 90yj with the 2.5 and 33x12.5x15 tires. I am also looking at doing a SBC swap.

Hey guys! Just got the November '09 issue of Jp Magazine. There is an article that may interest you both. I haven't read it yet, but the title is "Big Power Four-Popper" and is on page 30. It says that you can bolt a Turbocharger on the 2.5 for another 50HP. The basic turbo kit is $2999, but obviously there are other items to be had too. Looks like a good read. They put it on a dyno and it actually had about the same output as a stock six cylinder when they finished! Just passing it along as an FYI.

Be well,
Richard

for 3 grand you can have either a SBC for a better base platform for growth and improvements, another option if you want to be a little different is the 3.8 Gen II Super Charged GM swap. 240HP stock with computer and underdrive you can have 300-340hp easily. I have seen this same setup in 4 comp buggies and the guys were burnin up 42-44" tires without any problems.
