I am all for "building a jeep" over "buying a jeep thats
already built" but technically if you "built your jeep"
didnt you have to buy the parts, and therefore you did not
"build" them?

Technically you are correct but remember, we save HUGE
amounts of money by doing our own fabrication and
installation. True, it is easier to simply buy parts and
then install them, so naturally that is a part of us
"builders", but what defines us as BNB'ers is the fact that
we endeavor to do things ourselves as much as possible. You
could say it's the mentality in this case that counts, IE: I
WILL NOT take my Jeep in to a shop if I can fix it myself.
If you feel that your jeep is something that you want to
build yourself, and have fun doing it, then you ARE a BNBer!
I hope this answers your question, feel free to
comment.ZJTechie,
i agree the BNB is more than just yeh u brought that so you
dont count is more of the mentality i will fix the thing i
kno how to rather than paying a shop to jack it up and put
the bumpers on and after all if thats the way you think non
off us count as BNB's becouse we have all brought someting,
we all brought the base vehical didnt we?
and yh i kno thters a lot off spelling mastakes i cant spell
for ****
but grate group
mins only been to a shop once and that was cuz i got a free
oil change lol
OK I think it has to do with being thrifty. If you can build
something functional and probably better than what you can
buy...go for it! One of my buddies looked all over for a
motor for a blow dryer because the heating element was still
good...this is too far, time comes into play also. BnB to me
means we are not afraid to dip our toes into a little
R&D when our talents & tools alow... unless you really
want to rewind the stator in your alternator. NEVER TRUST A SKINNY COOK!
yep i love makeing things but sometimes u just cant beat the
price and when ur a college student thats all that maters
lol like i would love to make an exo cage but its just under
$700 for a full internal cage sooo i dont no
I lifted my truck out of what most would consider scrap
metal. I think in total I paid $90 to lift my truck about 6
inches and the majority of that was spent on welding rod and
refilling the oxy-acetylene tanks. I enjoy being able to
drive something that I crafted with my own hands. Nothing I
hate more then seeing some 16 year old kid driving a brand
new H2 on 24 inch rims that mommy and daddy bought him for
his birthday.1977 J-20
1993 YJ
1994 ZJ
i can say i added by my hands, every addition to my stock
jeep
from the lift (springs from a v8 cherokee)
to the additional body lift I added and MML i added, flat
fenders I created, Hi-Lift jack mount I created, winch I
added, bumpers I put on, rock sliders I created and so
on...
all done by my hands, not bought as it sits, or done by a
shop...
while i like to see jeeps that are built up, i have
less respect for off roaders who buy and or have some
one else do the work for them as opposed to
do-it-yourself off roaders
not to say I have no respect for them, just not as much as
for people who are not afraid to do it themselves
I am not including work that is too complicated and where
you may not have the proper know how or tools
such as trans, trnsfer case or engine work (over hauls,
clutch work, gears, engine swaps and such)
To me BnB is a frame of mind. Doing things no shop would
even consider letting you in the door for.
x2 on that. I bought my ZJ when I was in high school.
I had a shop do brakes and rotors for me once. After I
paid off that bill I started teaching myself how to maintain
my Jeep. And now I am addicted, I look for things to do
even when everything is working(which is never). I just
replaced the head gasket, threw in some new push rods and
lifters, new water pump, thermostat, intake manifold gasket,
blah blah blah. And then two days later wrecked the Jeep.
Now it is for offroad use only and I want to build a stroker
for it. Anyone around Bowling Green Ky want to help? (as
further incentive I share a parking lot with a little local
bar) SELL ME YOUR USED ADJUSTABLE ZJ LOWER CONTROL ARMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
