Hey jturner18 .. I have a 95 2.5l as well. If you are doing 3" lift .. you probably aren't going larger than 31 x 10.50 tires. I have 4" of lift and run that tire size. Probably could have squeezed 33's but I wanted a little gap between fenders / tires.

If you do it right and order a suspension kit, many come with everything including shocks. You'll just have to shop around.

Rough country have some inexpensive options, while BDS and Old Man Emu are more pricey, but better quality.

Hope that helps and welcome to the club.

I went el cheapo on the lift .... 2" body and 2" shackles all self installed. Everyone on this forum seems to hate this setup, but it has worked fine so far for me. I'd like to replace the shackles with teraflex revolver shackles and a 4" supspension lift (total 6" lift and run 33's later, but then axle mods come into play and i'm not quite ready for that.

It handled great with that lift on the worn out goodyear 30's (measured only 28.5 worn down) and looked a little funny. I haven't driven on the new tires yet due to trans trouble. That'll be fixed soon and I can give you a full report.

Hey thanks jack68.

Regarding your rough country 4" question, search it on the forum. There is A LOT of info, opinion on it. I for one am considering that lift myself and ditching the 2" shackles for teraflex revolvers. We'll see what the rest of the year brings.

Jturner18 the most inexpensive 2" Budget Lift that I've found is available from RRO http://www.rocky-road.com/jeepbudget.html . You don't have to buy new shocks for this one. It's $145.00 and you can run 31 X 10.50 15's with it.

Guitardude, X2 on the nice lookin' YJ! Just so that you know, if you did a 2" shackle lift and a 2" BL, you actually got a 3" lift. This is due to the fact that when you put shackles on, you only gain half of the actual shackle height, just an FYI . Do you have any more pictures of your Jeep from the front, back, and side? I'm interested in seeing them if you do, as I am considering doing the same lift on my '87 YJ. I would like to run 31's, and had thought that I wouldn't like the look of a 2" BL, but your YJ looks great! I would rather have some space between the fender flares and tires too. Are you using swaybar discos, I couldn't tell from your picture? If not, you can gain like 20% more flex by adding a set .

Be well,
Richard

richardd is right about the shackles every inch of lengt to the shackles gives you half an inch of lift..:stock shackles 4inches...a 6inch long shackle is 2 inches longer so 1 inch lift...
also 2.5 susp lift clears 32s
4.5 susp lift clears 33s.
with a 4.5 lift,to do it right, think about longer pitman arm, longer sway bar links(if you keep em at all...)and maybe sway bar disconect could be a good investment, either 1 inch motor mounts or 1 inch transfer case lowering kit, track bars extentions front and rear(again if you keep em...)and longer shocks...

buying a complete 4.5 with everything included will be cheaper than upgrading from 2.5 to 4.5 later on unless you get good deals...good luck...

I know that this has been discussed everywhere a bunch, but I was originally considering doing a spring over using my stock springs, which many are against here. If it's done right it works well, and ends up costing a bit less than replacing springs, but this only works if your stock ones are in good shape. You get a 5.5 inch lift and can run 33's, and with trimming, 35's. That being said, you really don't want to run 35's unless you upgrade your axles though. We decided that we would use the TJ as the main wheeler and continue to build it up (are you ever really done???), and just put the YJ up 2" using a 1" BL and 2" set of shackles on 31's for light duty trailriding with a couple of diff guards .

.....and I still want to see more pics of Guitardudes YJ with the 2" BL.

Be well,
Richard

Thanks for the comments guys. I am aware of the shackles and how much lift they give. I bought shackles that are twice as long as stock (8") thus gaining 2" of actual lift. Added 2" body lift .. now 4" higher. Gained another 1 1/2" from the worn out goodyears being replaced by the new interco trxus 31's.

In the same garage a before after measurement of my front and rear fender flares to the floor verfified a total lift of 5 1/2".

I drove this setup for a week on the old tires and everything seemed just fine. I have yet to drive on the new tires, so I'll fill you in once I am driving it again.

Hopefully by march.

I'll post those pics you wanted later tonight richard.

Happy wheelin'

I'm also thinking about doing the RC 4" lift but I'm curently running 30*9.5 bfg a/ts I know the 4" will clear 33's but I just put on the 30's and was wondering if I did this lift and kept my tires if it would look retarted. Also instead of doing the x-fer case drop kit I think I'm just going to run sye to save the trouble

It is going to look a bit odd with the smaller tires. You could put them up for sale, and then get larger ones with what you get out of them. Don't know if you got them online or through a tire shop. But if you got them from a shop, and if they are still really new, maybe you can trade them back in against a larger set. Worth the ask, all they can say is no.

Good idea on the SYE, I think it's the way to go to, why drop the Tcase, loosing ground clearance!?!

Richard

yeah I've only had the tires for about 3-4k miles. I was thinking about selling them but I think when I buy a new DD I'll put them on it... if theyll fit lol I think theyll fit on a patriot... anyway theres another guy that has the same tires I do and he just put a 6" lift on and he was saving up for 35s and it looked stupid so I kinda figured mine would as well. As for the sye its expensive but its pointless to put a lift on your jeep then lower something.

Lift and little tires doesn't look so cool.

Here's mine with 4" lift on stock wheels and totally worn bald goodyear 30 x 9.50.

Second pic is same thing with new 31 x 10.50 intercos.

Thankfully, I had only one week of the silly look.
